Who does not like natural stone or is too expensive, should look at the offer of the concrete stone manufacturers. In recent years, there has been an enormous expansion of the product range and also qualitative progress in terms of colour stability, for example. Concrete block offers the largest selection of colors, shapes and structures. The classic rectangular pavement, which is often installed in public facilities for cost reasons, is not always the first choice in the House Garden. More aesthetically pleasing solutions are required here. Our tip: get rid of classic square concrete block formats, because the range has much more to offer. Thus, there are now also stones in organic forms, which can be laid both in row dressing and undirected in Wild dressing. In terms of design, concrete stone is therefore extremely versatile – it is very suitable for paths in the natural garden, but also convinces with its liveliness as a large-scale ground attachment in modern designed gardens.

Clinker and brick
Paving clinkers have been popular for generations, especially in northern Germany, where they are hard to imagine rural gardens without. The bricks fired from clay at 1,100 degrees are durable and easy to clean. With their warm red, yellow and brown tones, they give the trail a dignified and at the same time natural look. Also popular at lower temperatures are burnt, used bricks, which mostly come from the demolition of old houses. Due to the low supply, however, the prices are considerable and usually higher than the new paving clinker. However, historic bricks with their flaked edges and natural Patina also exude a special charm that can hardly be imitated by artificial aging processes.

Other Road Surfaces
Wood coverings look very modern, but are more suitable for larger objects such as wooden terraces. In shady areas they are problematic, as they can become dangerously slippery in rain and snow. Only use weather-resistant materials such as oak, Robinia or tropical wood from sustainable forestry.

Loose path materials such as gravel, chippings or bark mulch are particularly suitable for less frequently used side paths, as wheelbarrows and lawnmowers are harder to move on them. For this, they blend very harmoniously into the Green of the garden. Those who love flowing transitions do without a lateral border and use the path surface at the same time as Mulch for the adjacent bed. If you want to design your garden path, however, you should surround the path edges with paving stones or a metal rail. A plastic nonwoven fabric under the gravel layer ensures that no weeds can grow through.

Paths made of different materials
You can also combine different pavements with each other – for example concrete slabs with natural stone small pavements, clinker with natural stone slabs or slab coverings with grit. In such cases, however, a good hand is required from a design point of view, because different materials always make the garden path look a bit restless. In times of upcycling and Urban gardening, however, such garden paths have their charm when residual amounts of different paving stones have actually been consumed and simply combined with each other. However, it benefits the visual effect if you move with both types of material in one color world – so if possible, combine gray concrete stone with light or dark gray natural stone and red paving clinker with reddish concrete or natural stones.
